Muhammad Ali Says

When a man says I cannot, he has made a suggestion to himself. He has weakened his power of accomplishing that which otherwise would have been accomplished.”
——— Muhammad Ali.

Well said, Ali, well said.

Motivation, Say It People

“People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily.” Zig Ziglar

Oh my god. Have you ever felt so damn lazy to do work? Sometimes the answer is to just do it!

Working on my next project, putting piece by piece together. That reminds me of a puzzle. I love puzzles, but I always abandon them if they take too long. Gulp. One piece at a time…..

Does music help? Or maybe food? Or a “short” break?

Where do you get motivation? I just wished that my motivation switch is turned on, like a light--  constant – until you switch it off.

But that never happens doesn’t it?

Wise Words Wednesday

Photobucket

A spin to Wordless Wednesdays ;)

“…people will pay for those who can solve problems, not those who cause them…”

“ It’s important to be friendly, because people tend to help friends, not strangers.”

“ Smile alot.”

“ Say thank you, it doesn’t cost a thing.”

“ Go on, try it. If you don’t, you’ll never know…”

“ Don’t trust people. Ask them as many questions as possible before telling them things about us.”

“ Sometimes, we don’t have to know everything. Just have a feel by starting doing things.”

These words were told by my bosses, colleagues and friends I met through work.

p/s: I know I know, been MIA. Just that so many things are happening. (As if other people aren’t busier than me!) I’m ganna update asap. Take care everyone.

Specialization is For Insects

weekend love!

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.

-Robert A. Heinlein

I’ve posted the quote above before, but I don’t remember when was it. This quote must be one of my favorites of all time because it speaks about the condition we are in. I’ve always envied people who multitask elegantly, juggling every single role like an expert performer.

I think it’s a natural thing for us to wanna do so many things at a time. But because our responsibilities push us to work on very specific things, we miss out on others.

I didn’t write much last week, it was such a hectic week and to top it all off, we had the Chinese New Year one week holiday before that, so the I’m not quite up to gear 5 yet.

Tomorrow I’m helping out a friend with a photography job, my first one, mind you. I don’t plan to do freelance anytime, considering I’m not that good of a photographer myself but when someone pays you to do something, you’ll have to do your best.

Have fun and enjoy your weekend.

On a very cheerful note, a blogger friend, Sabrina is getting married soon!

Wednesdays Are Quote Days

rosie rainbow

"So many people walk around with a meaningless life. They seem half-asleep, even when they're busy doing things they think are important. This is because they're chasing the wrong things. The way you get meaning into your life is to devote yourself to loving others, devote yourself to your community around you, and devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning." Wise Man Warren Says

Warren Buffett is one of the people I look up to. He’s always coming up with brilliant quotes that made me think. Some of my favorites are written down below:-

  1. If you hit a hole in one on every hole, you wouldn’t play golf very long.
  2. If you don’t make mistakes, you can’t make decisions.
  3. There comes a time when you ought to start doing what you want. Take a job that you love. You will jump out of bed in the morning. I think you are out of your mind if you keep taking jobs that you don’t like because you think that it will look good on your resume.

You know why I bother with quotes? These people have been successful in life so I thought heeyyy tips to be successful too! Ever since I had that realization, I just started favoring quotes. Maybe it’s a weird reason but whatevers.

Friends or Foe

"Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that but the really great make you feel that you too, can become great."

Say Grace

“       Two little mice fell into a bucket of cream. The first mouse quickly gave up and drowned, but the second mouse, he struggled so hard that he eventually churned that cream into butter and he walked out.        ”

Engineering...is the art of doing that well with one dollar

Hellew.
I'm taking a break from studying. (100th time)

How's everyone by the way?

I felt refreshed after getting off the phone with my mom. She told me to stay strong. I dunno about staying strong, but I'm definitely hanging in there.

Obama said yesterday in his victory speech, "Yes, we can!" I was really psyched about it. I was dreaming of going through hundreds of pages of process plant design. (I only got to about 20, or maybe it was 10?) But it's fine. As long as we get something from studying. Rite? Rite?

By the way, I found these quotes online about engineering. Thought I'd share =)

An engineer is someone who is good with figures, but doesn't have the personality of an accountant.- An Arts graduate's view of engineers

---------------------------

An engineer is someone who washes his hands before going to the toilet.- Anon

---------------------------

A good scientist is a person with original ideas. A good engineer is a person who makes a design that works with as few original ideas as possible- Freeman Dyson

---------------------------

Engineering is the art of modelling materials we do not wholly understand, into shapes we cannot precisely analyse so as to withstand forces we cannot properly assess, in such a way that the public has no reason to suspect the extent of our ignorance.
- Dr AR Dykes
British Institution of Structural Engineers, 1976.

---------------------------

Engineering problems are under-defined, there are many solutions, good, bad and indifferent. The art is to arrive at a good solution. This is a creative activity, involving imagination, intuition and deliberate choice.
- Ove Arup

---------------------------

Engineering ... to define rudely but not inaptly, is the art of doing that well with one dollar, which any bungler can do with two after a fashion.
- Arthur Mellen Wellington
The Economic Theory of Railway Location (1911)

---------------------------

Engineers ... are not mere technicians and should not approve or lend their name to any project that does not promise to be beneficent to man and the advancement of civilization
- John Fowler

And I've gotta agree with what he says. So first I'm going to plan an invasion...
