Little Critters

Hello. I'm writing this just to show that my hamsters are still alive.

Saturday night I decided to give a little freedom to my pet hamsters. I set up their fence (which you can buy at major pet shops) and let them go wildddd.

hamster1

The fence is about RM125, which isn’t too expensive I think. Anyways they serve their purpose well when cleaning hamster cages and you need a place to contain the little critters (that’s a brand name is it??) and cardboard boxes do not work because they chew their way out in 5 minutes tops.

hamster4

That’s Kasturi and Cholte facing off in an attempt to secure their own territory. Whatever. I don’t usually put them in a cage together, so during outings, they tend to waste their time doing unnecessary things like this.

hamster2

Hamsters in hamster playpen. I had to keep a look out the whole time they were in the pen just to make sure they didn’t try something creative like climbing the fences or biting on the other hamster or even biting on my carpet =_=

This fence would be perfect for a small hamster type like roborovskis or chinese hamsters and less for syrian hamsters like mine because they’re so huge and though they don’t realize this, if they put their whole concentration on breaking through the fence, it would give way. Usually it takes them about 15 minutes to figure this out if I’m not watching.(Past experience.psshh)

Hamster food heaven. Giving them some treats in the treat box. Totally made that up. Sometimes I just feel like they should help themselves that’s all.

I’ve always loved and always will love animals (except creepy crawly roaches and the likes) but when my mix persian cat Figaro went missing a long time ago, my family was devastated and afterwards just got hesitant about keeping pets.

That’s why I wanted something small and manageable. I started keeping hamsters because I thought they would be easy to care for. Yeah, that and another tiny little fact that most people seem to miss is that they die easily. So it’s not ‘easy’ to care for hamsters. They’re delicate and sensitive and once sick, they die fairly quickly. But they’re also like little teddy bears with unique personalities which I’m sure would surprise many people in the beginning. I was.

Their fur is really dense and soft. It’s like having a squishy toy that’s alive. So I’m really happy to have gotten them. My hamsters would be almost 2 soon. Love them! Love them!!!!!!!!!

Rats!

First things first, updates on the house rat. It lives in our kitchen. It can’t get out, and it eats food waste. Last night, we set up a mouse trap; or rather rat-trap to kill it. Well guess what, it ate the bait and escaped.

We’re talking about the spring loaded bar mousetrap here. Go Google if you don’t know what it is. How strong is the rat if it can escape this type of trap? Mouse trap

Me and mom are anxious about our hamsters. We first thought the rat might wanna mate with our hamsters if he sees them but after googling “rat meets hamster”, we see that perhaps, the rats would eat hamsters, sushi style no less.

Frankly speaking, I’d rather see my hamsters giving birth to long tailed babies *cringe* than to see hamsters sushi style if you know what I mean.

What’s that Milo? No, I didn’t say anything about rats,

I said cats.…Actually, it was mats.

And There Was Star Trek

DAILY OMGS

I wonder why some people feel they are fit enough to pass judgments on me when all they did was to look at me for 5 minutes? I was falling asleep in the surau when some makcik got in and said, “tak de keje eh? Masih ada masa nak berehat2.” Mind your own business, woman.

Today at work was pretty eventful. I played a game on Cimbclicks that give Nokia handphones to the top 5 winners. So far I’m ranked 359. Then I went to the bank, it was full, I went back. Me and friends planned to have lunch in McD. It was too hot outside so we cancelled. I went to the canteen twice to buy snacks and drinks. See? Eventful.

CAR

As for updates on my car, I’m happy with it, but I’d be ecstatic if the car doesn’t accelerate like an old lady. Luckily I’ve got heads up before buying the car, so I know.

I still can’t get over how short the car is. The car trunk is non-existent. It’s a blast getting out of tight spots. A little maneuver and I’m out.

HAMSTERS

I’m glad my hamsters aren’t procreating any further. The lengths we go through to make sure of that is almost amazing. 5 cages for 5 hamsters. It’s a zoo I tell ya. Thank god I need to clean only once every fortnight.

STAR TREK

I watched it last Friday. Friday night Friday night. Night of freedom and celebrations. Freaking fantastic. Went into the cinema with 1% knowledge of Star Trek, no expectations and previews nor summary readings beforehand and I was blown away. Suddenly that Sylar guy is hot. And Chekov and James T. Kirk. Suddenly I feel like a Star Trek fan. Suddenly I felt like watching reruns from the 1960s original Star Trek series but of course didn’t.

Star Trek is Ah-May-Zing. Period okay. I watched it twice at the cinema in 3 days okay. Apparently everyone agrees because it’s no 1 in US now?

Hamsters are really fun to care for!! They’re not like mice or gerbils or rats. They’re very cuute.., not expensive and very hygienic by nature.

One thing that surprised me is how distinct their personalities are from each other. That’s something nobody told me before I took them into my care. I prefer these teddy bear hamsters because first, they’re the largest out of other common hamster types such as the dwarf hamster or the roborovski hamster. Second, they’re easy to tame and won’t bite unlike the more aggressive little hamsters. Third, they respond to you when you call them, especially with food and they’ll come to you and grab the food with their tiny forefeet.

They love to stand on their hind legs which makes them appear like bears, especially the brown ones. One reason why kids choose hamsters is because they’re somewhat low maintenance compared to other house pets such as cats, dogs, rabbits etc. They eat almost anything, I’ve given them chocolate in the past. As snacks of course.

I didn’t buy all five hamsters. They procreated and I couldn’t give them away! I keep them in three separate cages because not all of them get along. Milo will attack any other hamster in her sight, so she gets her own cage. Cholte stays with her aunty Kasturi and Sinichi stays with Obama.

That’s it for now. Hope you enjoyed the pictures. I’m putting up a badge saying I’m a proud hamster owner! You can take it if you want, but please link back to this blog. Take Care!

The Guessing Game

Hey. I was about to charge my handphone, when I look down and discovered this:

Can you guess who did it? Hint: Not supernatural forces nor human.

We must learn to forgive and forget because that's what we should do when we love someone/something. Even when someone/something did something that pisses us off a lot.

*Breathe in* *Breathe out*

Remember, forgive and forget. And borrow roommate's charger for a few days.

On a side note: If you haven't already visited chedet.com, you should. Dr. Mahathir is a wise, wise man and he has so much valuable things to say. I think I've fallen in love with his personality or something.

A Week of Mishaps and Misfortunes

Due to 'staggering' demand of a new post, I decided to cut my hiatus short and put an end to the misery of my friends--you know who you are; and besides, there's some pretty intense stuff happening over the week.

Aside from two tests, and aside from the usual mish-mash, I thought last week was the unluckiest week for people around me. One person got into a motorbike accident, a lecturer fell down and fractured her humerus (this was the word the doctor used to describe her upper arm) and my poor max popped out an eyeball. And by the way, Max was my Syrian hamster.

If anything else could go wrong, it would be last week. And it actually did. We hit a stone wall with our group project and to be honest, I feel like I should blame my supervisor for steering us away from the original plan. Mr Thorpe, how did you manage to waver all of us?

To top the week of mishaps and misfortunes, there were two consecutive tests on Friday and Saturday, which I must say is quite a beat in the head.

That was last week in a flash, though the weekend was quite pleasant for such a dreadful week and it involves some retail therapy and good food at Iro Iro. So I was re-energized for a brand-new week. That's how it goes.
