Bun…In the Oven

Hubby practically ran out the door this morning and asked me to water the plants. Usually that’s his forte. He loves the gardening stuff. I just love the flowers that bloom mostly. But he was just late to work. Then Chanel came up to me, looking all cute and HUNGRY. So I fed her.

Then I did the laundry, had breakfast while planning my day. Mom told me that they might be going to Aussie in December. So bye-bye to me. If all things go according to plan, I WON’T be able to leave the house from October to December. Because there’s a bun in the oven, so to speak. I’m knocked up. Pregnant. Expecting.

Funny thing is, I think my cat is the first to know that something was up. She was extra affectionate, and I almost always found her laying at my feet one week before I found out.

Call it many things, it only means one thing. Unlike many other couples I know who get excited and over the moon happy, hubby and I react first and foremost with nervousness. Happy, but nervous. A baby is a huge responsibility that you’ll carry for the rest of your life.

Sometime last year, I sat with grandma.

“Opah, so when do you think you can feel less worried about your children? Like, is it once they get married?”

She paused a few seconds.

“I never get less worried. You worry all your life about your children. Even now.” Her youngest is 40.

As with every commitment, we’re very cautious. You probably wouldn’t think that we gave a seconds thought, but we actually gave it a year. Lol.

So when it’s finally happening, we’re quite unsure of how to act. Well, I’m still relatively active. I try swimming at least once every week. Or go for walks at FRIM. Or long walks at the mall. Counts right?

Hubby doesn’t know my limits so he just takes cues from me. Well, I don’t know my limits either. The other day we went cycling for 2 hours at FRIM. I went very slow, careful not to overexert or get overheated. Then we made the mistake of telling other people, who immediately jump to conclusion that I was being ‘selfish’ and was endangering the little bun.

Well for one, I’ve led a somewhat active life even before, so I thought it’s quite normal for me. It isn’t a new thing that I’m trying now. Plus I was being EXTRA careful.

Also, its funny how people started judging. Like, ‘you’re 3 months along? But you’re hardly showing!!! My friend already had a bulge this big when she was 3 months along… Your baby must be tiny!!!’ My baby ain’t tiny, he/her is the perfect size for his/her age!! That was the first rush of motherly instinct I’ve ever felt.

Also it’s weird when people start touching your stomach once they know. Especially when there’s nothing much to see or touch right now. Normally I would go, “ade lemak je sekarang…HA HA… HA.” ~_~ And actually see the hint of excitement disappear from their eyes.

Then I start questioning why am I tiny? Yeah and you wonder what ladies think about most of the time. I don’t usually give a hoot to things people say about me, but when it involves sensitive stuff, well.

Plus you’ve heard about pregnant ladies hormones. Oh my they’re REAL. So real. Like the invasion of the body snatchers. There’s an alien who actually loves eating chocolate, ice cream, and thank god, LOTS and lots of fruit that’s living in my body. And gags at the smell of food cooking, and body odor. And insists on taking naps in the afternoon. And suddenly hates pop music.

The joy, the joy. Anyways I’m still nervous. Very much nervous. Hubby sometimes is in denial. At one time he’ll be like, ‘are you sure you’re pregnant?’ And that kind of question isn’t something people ask once you’ve seen baby dancing on the ultrasound scan. Seriously hubs.

There’s still a long way to go, still many things to do and think about. Many plans that need to be carried out. And last but not least, many prayers and doas needed from you guys.

Thank you so much for reading through this monologue.

I’ll keep all of you in my prayers, insyaallah.

Cracked the Nutshell

So you know that after 5 very long, but most wonderful years, I’ve finished my studies in UTP. I’m now working. Last week I had my convocation and have officially been granted BSc (Hons.) in Chemical Engineering.

I’m not finished. Early this year, me and a friend got talking about how we have to go somewhere together after graduation. We talked and talked and talked some more. I was afraid that with all the talking, nothing will happen.

BUT. I have nothing to fret about anymore because the return ticket has been paid, accomodation and transportation has been booked, travel plans has been finalized, the bosses and parents approve…

I’m backpacking to New Zealand in early November!

Milford Sound Hoping to get gorgeous shots of the mountainous areas.

In case you’ve forgotten, they filmed Lord of the Rings in New Zealand. Yup… the hobbits, the beautiful elves, the scary huge mountains, the grass fields!

Lonely Planet has also granted Milford Sound, New Zealand as no 1 must visit spot in the world in 2009.

New Zealand would be a great place to get away from it all. The sheep population outnumber humans by 10 times. Which I find really cute. I’m ganna make sure there’s lotsa sheep pictures or I’m ganna have to do something extreme like bungee jumping off a cliff there.

nzmore New Zealand pictures.

I swear if the sheeps run away from me, or god forbid, chases me, I’m ganna cry!

Malaysia Boleh!

The Sky Tower in Auckland. Just in case you start thinking New Zealanders live in the mountains, wear loin cloths and speak like elves.

Auckland skyline. To answer the burning question: they have towers, buildings and you know, boats.

I’ll update more on this later. Till then, toodles~

Educational Post

writer's block73 up, 21 down love it hate it
1) A period of time when a writer's mind is completely blank and drained of any kind of inspirational essence. They are unable to write. They start to bang their head against the basement wall. It bleeds. They scream and shout in agony. And finally, they pray that the pain from this blunt physical trauma and the sight of the sweet sweet catalytic blood finally gives them SOME kind of weak-ass idea.

I'm Taking a Break

I haven't been a good blogger lately. It's so hard to sit down and write something when all you wanna do is escape the monitor glare. I stare at the monitor screen for long hours in the office that I see stars. Then come home to surf some more. My eyes have weird red lines in them from staring too much at the monitor. Even so, sometimes I ignore them and I'm sure I can be categorized as a "computer addict". They send people like me to rehab in China.

I want to learn traditional lady roles, namely cooking. but I'm scared of oil in the wok. I wish I was American. Then I would learn cooking minus the hot oil and not be whispered about at family soirées. Wish me luck, I'm buying a new oven. (because our last one was in year 1999)

One of my goals (note the plural) during internship and bunking at home is to learn mandarin. It's hard. Mandarin is hard. My Lao shi is from China, wo de lao shi cong zhong guo. When I said something in mandarin she said she could understand me. And she told me that's good, you have good pronunciation. At least I felt rewarded even a little bit. I don't care. At least a Chinese from China understood me! If that isn't to be celebrated for, then I dunno what is, seriously. And I can write a bit. I've only MASTERED two characters so far: me & you. I can recognize some other characters as well, but it's all very muddled. I might say "house" when it's actually "walking" or something like that.

I told you I've mastered the "me" & "you". Though I think my computer writing is slightly more passable than my real writing on paper.

I'll take everyone out for some peking duck if I could carry a conversation without pausing and looking stupidly into air for inspiration!!!!! So far, everyone has been amazingly supportive of me learning pu tong hua. I love you guys SSOOOO much.

I wanna catch up on a lot of things, and most importantly I don't wanna look at the monitor screen for infinite period of times. I wanna read 3 books a week like I used to. I wanna go shopping. I wanna bake. I wanna sleep at 10.30. I wanna try weigh like a normal person. If they won't send me to rehab, I'll try rehabbing myself.

That's godly long for a title such as "I'm taking a break". I should've wrote "Hello, I'm going off the virtual world for a while till.... I dunno when. Don't miss me. Bye bye. Be good!"

But you get my point right? I won't be writing for a while. Maybe 2 weeks, who knows.
Goodbye for now. Me eyes are hurtin.

xoxo <3

I am a Friend..!!! [Dedicated to all Palestinians]

Things you can do to help them:

  1. Donate money through Islamic Relief Malaysia in collaboration with Utusan Malaysia. Please bear in mind that every little cent counts when everyone donates. Islamic Relief Malaysia Berhad Maybank account: 5621-4270- 8704 or CIMB account: 1259-0000-8040-58. Or go to their website http://www.irm.org.my

  2. Boycott American & Israeli products. I know this can be hard, but it's really worth the try. Listen to Mahathir people.

  3. Pray for the people of Palestine.

I don't wanna elaborate on this, I'd rather work fast; so, talking more about it wouldn't be necessary in my opinion. Besides, who needs more commentators when there's already plenty of good ones written by internet peeps?

Sarah wrote one.
Lucius Maximus did a thought provoking post.
Read the one by Dr Mahathir here.
Here's one by Sarah B.
You gotta read this post by Hazri. So far my fave.
Nadiah's take on Palestine from Egypt.
And by Kak Teh & Nam Ron
The picture in Lenny's is heart-wrenching.

If you don't already know Kenny Sia's blog style, then DONT read this.

So there you have it, a compilation of online thoughts of the attack on Palestine. I'm sure you can find more if you scour the net. This is only a sliver of thousands of entries out there. The ones I linked here are all written by Malaysian bloggers. Why only Malaysian? Because I'm Malaysian that's why.

Till then, don't forget to pray for the Palestinians. They need you.

At Last, the New Layout is Out

Behold The Layout Muse:-

Yea I know funny that the muse is a stationary object but this thing is all gorgeousness. Always wanted a necklace stand. I saw a lot of these in Mid Valley at the ground floor in the little stalls along the pathway.

Anyways this is the new layout, I purposely wanted it to have a clean and neat feeling to it. Because obviously other parts of my life couldn't be this neat. So at least my blog layout is.

I spent one whole Saturday tweaking and fine tuning the whole thing, from the header to the post and side sections. For your information, this is originally the minima stretch theme that blogger provides in the template, but I find it a bit dull because millions of other people have the same 'ol same 'ol minima. So I changed it a bit here and there--making a template from scratch would be too hard for me but I'm pretty satisfied with it right now.

Hope this one is easy on your eyes. I really tried to make it eye-friendly. If there's something to comment on, tell me k. Lalala. Ok going. Chao~

I've been busy for the past one week, and I expect the same for another week. It's mid-semester, and everything is happening all at once. Plus if you remember, my college internet service is totally unreliable. So, the blog will be on a hiatus until September 27. Stay tuned.

About Me and Then Some

Hey!

I'm Adilah Adib, born on October 5th 1987, a girl and straight.

Those are the most important things you need to know before I go on.

I'm studying in University Technology of Petronas and I've been here for 3 years. I don't necessarily like this place, as you may well discover in my upcoming posts because reason no 1: I never wanted to go to UTP in the first place. What more to work as an engineer. That idea still freaks me out. Crikey.

My family is in Pakistan, and I meet them about twice a year; which is in June and in November. I'll answer a question many people instinctively ask me upon hearing about my family in Pakistan and that is, isn't it dangerous for them to live there? Aren't you worried? Well, the odds of you getting bombed in Pakistan is less than being robbed and killed in Malaysia. So, no, I'm not that worried to tell you the truth. Besides, they have Petronas informing them about the tiniest things like uncle X has moved out of his house. I used to be delighted to have my family so far away for obvious reasons, but starting last year, I think I've begin to detest having my family away in another continent and for more complicated reasons.

I like the finer things in life and I tend to be picky, but once I've found the perfect solution to my problem, I'll stick to it like super glue. Example? My very durable blanket that I've had since I was 6. Bought from a Pakistani merchant. Get what I mean? I'll talk about some of my favorite things from time to time, and I'll try to give the best recommendations of stuff.

So this is me, and then some other important things to me.
Hope you enjoy the read and have a very good day.
