19th Century Coca Cola Ad

Cocacola-5cents-1900_edit1

I’ve been curious about old movies for sometime now. Last 3 days, I found one movie from the 1930s----cue drumroll--------Gone With The Wind! I don’t wanna be called pretentious but there is a reason why that movie is one of the highest grossing movies of all time. Please please go watch that movie if you have any sudden curiosity for old movies. Ok?

The Yummiest Art

…….is culinary art!

CIMG0599 CIMG0600 CIMG0601 CIMG0597

When in doubt, eat Domino’s. We must all have our own emergency food service. What’s yours?

Moving on.. I know it looks like I’ve been doing nothing but eating all the while I’m at home, seeing that my last few posts were either about food or restaurants. Truth is, I’ve been fasting for the past week, hence the obsession with food, though I assure you that’s not all I do.

It’s amazing. I cook when I’m desperately hungry. That’s one way to make myself cook. In the past few days I made chicken fajitas, kuey tiaw noodle soup, egg drop soup and nasi goreng (ceh. Nasi goreng pun berlagak). Have I reformed or what???

If you can just close your eyes and imagine me crying while chopping onions and shredding chickens. Cutting bell peppers into cubes. Finding the darned sawi at the vegetable lane in a supermarket alone (They all look the same to me!). I ain’t the tidiest cook, nor can I call myself a ‘cook’ but following recipes is pretty easy. It almost felt like……. like…. doing experiments in the lab. Doink. Can’t run from it.

When I have made something half presentable I’m going to post so many pictures of my ‘art’ that you’re going to mistaken this blog as a food blog. For now I’m going to cook behind closed doors, like how some people sing in the bathroom only where they should be until they’re ready to go on stage. Till then.

Take care dudes and dudettes!

Saturday Night is Family Night

CIMG0336edited

As a family, like the wolf pack, usually my dad would assume the role of decision maker. He does not favor western food, Italian or Mexican. He doesn’t even like pizza that much and he would buy us a constant supply of chocolates but he never touches them. You’d never find him in Chilli’s or TGIF or Italiannies. Only on that odd father’s day that we ‘forced’ him to take us to Bubba Gump Shrimp and even then, he ordered a kiddy meal.

Food he usually agrees to is anything Asian. Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Indian, Pakistani, Arabic--you name it. So on Saturday night, we jumped on his offer to dine out. “Bah let’s go to Hadramawt!”.

CIMG0291edited CIMG0294edited

Thing is, my dad has been singing praises over this place for the past 2 weeks, after finding out in Egypt that Hadramawt is in Malaysia. If you’ve been to Rawsha and enjoyed the food there, you’re going to enjoy the food here better. Price-wise is more or less comparable to TGIF.

The place makes you wonder whether you’re actually in an Arabic country or in Malaysia. There weren’t many locals inside and the place was swarmed by Arab families. The place looked pretty exclusive, very cozy and very Arabic.

The food is of course SEDAP. Delicious. Mouth watering. Say it however you want it. You can tell just by looking at the pictures. [I’ll never be a food blogger because I get too excited at the sight of the food that I forget to snap pictures until everybody is halfway through their food =P]

More pictures of pretty little things. We had hummus and green salad for appetizer, lamb madghout and chicken kebab for main course. Then we had Arabic tea which by the way, smelled so good.

We hang out for a bit, until it was 11.30 before realizing it was raining heavily outside. (Told you the place was super cozy.)

So yeah. That was my Saturday night. Nothing wild, just a very nice dinner outside with the familia. My youngest brother was the happiest one, being allowed to stay up past 12. I’ll be back soon. There’s a lot to report. Ciao!

Inception and Eclipse Blow My Mind

inception-review-2010

Hie everybody out there! Especially those who do not know exactly what to do with their lives (but working on it!). So today I watched Inception at Mid Valley. Christopher Nolan is the man! My introduction to his directing style came in the form of the Prestige back in 2006. I knew immediately that one, he doesn’t make movies for us to sit back and relax. Two, his movies aren’t for new couples on dates. Because his movies doesn’t give us a chance to breathe or stop thinking. It’s like watching a puzzle but in visual form. And after his movies, good luck talking about anything else.

I rate inception 8/10 on the Christopher Nolan scale because he deserves to have his own scale. His movies aren’t comparable to others but if it is, then tell me, I’d love to watch it. It’s just brilliant, mind blowing, mind numbing fun you think you’re running with the characters throughout the movie.

Leonardo Di Caprio. OMgosh Leo has always been on my list to watch for ever since he appeared in Titanic (I was, and still am a big fan of the big ship). He’s amazing. I love Chris (old friend) just for choosing Di Caprio to star in the movie. The way he chose Hugh Jackman (swooooooooon. Those abs. The accent. The height. The smile. The voice. I love you!!!!!) in the Prestige, he’s just unstoppable.

Honestly my mind is still reeling from watching Inception this morning. Owh by the way, if you’re really in hurry, go to the Gold Class counter, ask for the movie that’s about to start. In my case, I asked for the one starting right now! Make an exasperated face for extra measures and thank the lady at the counter graciously. I got the ticket in 5 minutes instead of waiting in line for 30 minutes. Another smarter idea is to book the ticket earlier.

trio-house-eclipse

Woosh. Hotness.

Yesterday I went out with Bella (yes BIG coincidence) and we watched Eclipse. Sighs. Eclipse didn’t get me reeling like Inception did but it wasn’t meant to do that. Eclipse is dreamy. Eclipse makes me green with envy. While Inception is like working on wall street, Eclipse is like an extended holiday on the beach. Twilight haters: oh please just get over it. It’s meant to be an escapism.

Those are two must-watch movies this month. I’m ganna take a short break from the cinema and maybe buy more cetak rompaks. Eat microwave pop corn while at it. If you’re wondering why, let me explain in one word: unemployed.

I’ll be back sooon. OMG I miss writing. I know I’m a geek. Bye.

Pulau Pangkor

I finished writing this post, when suddenly the laptop crashed and deleted EVERYTHING. So to recap my trip in short: the plan was a simple 2 days 1 night stay, filled with activities from day to night. At the end of it all, felt more like a one week stay.

This holiday was a 5 star holiday just because beautiful things keep cropping up during our stay. The sunset at 7.30 pm was GORGEOUS. It was the right time of the year to visit Pangkor. Water has never been that clear. A very long rainbow greeted us in the morning. Plus, the special treatment given to us because it was off-peak season. Can you say private island?! AAAAAhh love love love.

Highlights of holiday not in picture: Watching world cup together in hotel room, searching for night cab, war with monkey, afternoon swim in the pool, disastrous volleyball, the 4 round banana boat ride, floating in the sea watching sunset!

Sounds Like Taboo

It’s Wednesday night. Me and family perched in front of the tv after dinner together. We were watching history channel. Sounds perfectly natural right? We have this habit of watching the Universe series together.

I love it, my brothers love it, my dad loves it, and my mom, not wanting to be left out usually joins us but happily doing so from the side while reading magazines. It’s like the only thing on tv that doesn’t cause a remote war between my brothers, or an eye roll from me, or a resoundingly authoritive “no” from dad.

Instead we sit together like happy bunnies for the one hour show. A basket of laundry to fold and seated happily, waiting. Then “The Universe” flashes on screen. I was like YAY. LOL. It was gay but whatever. Then the title continued :Sex in space.

I stopped folding the tshirt, and my 20 year old brother gave an audible hah? with gleaming interest in his eyes. The rest just kept quiet and pretended the tv didn’t say that.

So how does one deal with awkward situations (and disappointing ones given that I was looking forward to this show) involving something as unspeakable as that. What do you do when all of a sudden flashed an explicit topic on screen that’s practically taboo in your family, as if inviting you to discuss it with your family like a forum competition??

What I did was to pick up my laundry basket and said “I’m out of here”. I honestly can’t watch anything that topic with my parents and my little brother around. No matter how academic or scientific it is. It’s just weird and I’d pray for the earthquake or thunderstorm.

So maybe some people could sit through the entire thing with ease and with their parents and 11 year old brother but I’d rather do a drunken drag queen impersonation in front of the class than watch that with the family.

Seems like dad changed the channel. My mom back in the kitchen and brothers doing their thing. So much for family tv time. I’m just going to wait for the next episode. Back to desperate housewives. Alone. Ehem.

Till then, take care!
